Eject

/ɪˈdʒekt/ verb

Definition

To force something or someone out of a place, often suddenly or violently, like pressing a button to remove a disc from a player.

Etymology

From Latin eicere, from e- (out) + iacere (to throw). The word entered English in the 16th century meaning 'to throw out.' Modern technology usage came in the 20th century with ejection buttons and seats.

Kelly Says

Military ejection seats save pilots' lives by catapulting them out of falling aircraft at speeds exceeding 700 mph. The g-forces involved are so intense that pilots train extensively, and the seats have to detect emergencies in milliseconds!
