Definition
To make something elastic or flexible by adding elastic material or properties.
Etymology
From elastic (from Late Latin elasticus, meaning 'springy') + -ize (suffix meaning 'to make or become'). The word developed in the 19th century as elastic materials became commercially important.
Kelly Says
Elasticize emerged as a verb when the textile industry needed a word for treating fabrics with rubber or elastic fibers—it's a perfect example of how new manufacturing techniques create new verbs!
