Emule

/ˈiːmjuːl/ proper noun

Definition

A peer-to-peer file sharing client software, particularly popular in the early 2000s for downloading files.

Etymology

Portmanteau of 'electric' or 'enhanced' + 'mule', where 'mule' refers to the pack animal that carries loads, metaphorically representing the software's function of carrying/transferring digital files between users.

Kelly Says

eMule was one of the most popular alternatives to the original eDonkey2000 network, ironically outlasting its predecessor. The software's logo featured a cartoon mule, playing on both the name and the concept of 'digital pack animals' carrying data across networks.
