Encomiastically

/ˌɛnkoʊmiˈæstɪkli/ adverb

Definition

In a manner that praises something or someone enthusiastically and at great length.

Etymology

From Greek enkōmion (praise song) + -astic (relating to) + -ally (manner adverb). The root enkōmion comes from en- (in) + kōmos (revel/festival), originally meaning a song sung at celebrations. By Roman times, it came to mean formal praise.

Kelly Says

Ancient Greek symposiums (drinking parties) were basically the original social media—and encomiums were the viral praise posts! The same root gives us 'comedy' (kōmos + -ody), so praise songs and funny performances literally came from the same party culture.
