The architectural feature of supporting something with corbels; an arrangement of corbels used to provide structural support.
Etymology
From en- + corbel (from Old French corbeau, raven, because corbels resembled a raven's beak when projecting from a wall) + -ment (abstract noun). Corbels are stone or wooden supports that stick out from walls.

Corbels are called 'ravens' because they poke out like a bird's beak—a medieval builder's visual joke! Many architectural terms hide these poetic animal names: flying buttresses, gargoyles, and these 'raven-stones' all reveal how builders saw buildings as living creatures.
