Endocrine

/ˈɛndoʊkrɪn/ adjective

Definition

Relating to glands that secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream. The endocrine system regulates metabolism, growth, reproduction, and other bodily functions.

Etymology

From Greek endon 'within' and krinein 'to separate or secrete'. Coined in the early 20th century as scientists discovered that certain glands release their products internally rather than through ducts.

Kelly Says

The endocrine system is like your body's chemical internet, with hormones acting as messages sent through the bloodstream! Unlike the nervous system's electrical signals, endocrine communication is slower but longer-lasting, perfect for regulating things like mood and metabolism.
