Ennomic

/ɛˈnoʊmɪk/ adjective

Definition

Relating to or governed by law or custom; following established norms or conventions.

Etymology

From Greek 'nomos' (law, custom) with the prefix 'en-' (in, within), possibly influenced by 'anomic' (without law). This is an extremely rare word, if it exists at all in standard English dictionaries.

Kelly Says

If 'ennomic' exists as a real word, it would be the antonym of 'anomic' (Durkheim's famous term for a state of lawlessness or social breakdown). But it's so rare that linguists debate whether it's a genuine English word or simply a theoretical formation that no one actually uses.
