Entities

/ˈɛntɪtiz/ noun

Definition

Things that exist independently, often used in philosophy, business, or computing to refer to distinct objects or concepts.

Etymology

From Medieval Latin 'entitas', from 'ens' meaning 'being' (present participle of 'esse', to be). The term gained philosophical importance in medieval scholasticism and later found applications in business and computer science.

Kelly Says

In computer science, 'entity' is fundamental to database design - every entity must have at least one attribute that uniquely identifies it. This concept revolutionized how we organize and retrieve information, from customer records to social media posts.
