Equiponderance

/ˌɛkwɪˈpɒndərəns/ noun

Definition

A state of equal weight or importance; the condition of balancing exactly on both sides.

Etymology

From French équipondérance or Medieval Latin equiponderantia, combining equi- (equal) and ponderare (to weigh), from Latin pondus meaning weight. The term evolved from physical weighing to metaphorical importance.

Kelly Says

Equiponderance is what happens when both sides of an argument carry exactly the same weight—neither one tips the scales, so you have a perfect stalemate!
