Euectic

/juːˈɛktɪk/ adjective

Definition

In chemistry, relating to or describing a mixture of substances that has the lowest possible melting point among all possible combinations.

Etymology

From Greek eu- (good, well) and ekhein (to melt), literally 'melting well.' The term was coined in the 19th century to describe the special proportions in metallic and chemical mixtures.

Kelly Says

A eutectic alloy melts at a lower temperature than either of its pure ingredients—this is why adding salt to ice makes it even colder, and it's the same principle ice cream makers use when freezing cream.
