Definition
A marine worm belonging to the family Eunicidae, typically predatory and with a pharynx equipped with teeth.
Etymology
From Eunice (a genus name) + -id (suffix forming family names); Eunice itself possibly from Greek eunice 'well-born' or a scientific coinage.
Kelly Says
Eunicid worms are the pirates of the ocean floor—they hunt in the darkness with powerful jaws and can bite hard enough to break through shells.
