Definition
A state of good humor, cheerfulness, or tranquil contentment of mind.
Etymology
From Greek eu- 'well' plus thymos 'spirit' or 'mind,' with -y making it a noun. Ancient Greek philosophers valued euthymy as a desirable mental state, similar to tranquility or equanimity.
Kelly Says
Ancient Greeks were obsessed with mental states—they had euthymy (calm happiness), euthamia (peaceful contentment), and megalopsychia (proud confidence), believing the mind could be fine-tuned like a musical instrument.
