Eutopia

/juːˈtoʊpiə/ noun

Definition

An idealized place or state of things that is actually realizable or achievable, as opposed to a mere fantasy.

Etymology

From Greek eu- (good) + topos (place), coined in contrast to Thomas More's 'Utopia' to suggest a good place that could genuinely exist rather than an impossible ideal.

Kelly Says

While 'utopia' comes from Greek for 'no-place' (ou- meaning not), eutopia literally means 'good-place'—it's the word Thomas More should have used if he wanted us to think his imaginary society was actually possible!
