Definition
To cause to evaporate; to convert into vapor or cause to dissipate, especially through heating or exposure to air.
Etymology
From 'evapor-' (Latin 'evaporare') plus the verb-forming suffix '-ize,' which is used to create verbs from noun or adjective roots. This allows 'evaporate' to be used as a verb in active voice with an object.
Kelly Says
While 'evaporate' is typically intransitive (the water evaporates), 'evaporize' makes it transitive (the heat evaporizes the water), though 'evaporate' is more commonly used in modern English for both meanings.
