Definition
An abnormal outgrowth; excrescence; the state or quality of growing excessively.
Etymology
Variant spelling and form of excrescence, from Latin excrescentia, using an alternative -cy ending instead of -ce to create the noun form.
Kelly Says
This is basically the same word as 'excrescence,' but with an older spelling variant that persisted in medical and scholarly texts—English has many such doublets where two forms survive for the same concept.
