Exponents

/ɪkˈspoʊ.nənts/ noun

Definition

Small numbers placed above and to the right of another number to show how many times to multiply that number by itself, or people who represent and promote something.

Etymology

From Latin 'exponens' (one who sets forth or expounds), from 'exponere'. Originally meant a person who explains or represents something, later applied to the mathematical symbol representing repeated multiplication.

Kelly Says

The double meaning is beautiful—just as a mathematical exponent 'expounds' or shows the power of a number, human exponents like Rosa Parks 'expressed' the power of their convictions for the world to understand.
