Fables

/ˈfeɪbəlz/ noun

Definition

Short stories, often with animal characters, that teach a moral lesson or practical truth.

Etymology

From Latin 'fabula' meaning 'story' or 'tale.' The form became especially associated with Aesop's Fables from ancient Greece, which used animal characters to teach human wisdom.

Kelly Says

Aesop's Fables have survived for 2,500 years because they're so efficient—they teach life lessons in just a few sentences through memorable characters like the tortoise and hare, making wisdom stick better than any lecture!
