Facia

/ˈfeɪʃə/ noun

Definition

A wide, flat surfaced wooden or metal board that covers the ends of rafters on a building, or in anatomy, a sheet of connective tissue under the skin.

Etymology

From Latin 'fascia' meaning a band or sash. The word traveled through Italian and French before entering English. Originally meant a decorative band, but expanded to mean any broad flat surface.

Kelly Says

Your body is wrapped in fascia—a continuous web of connective tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, and organ like a three-dimensional spider web! Fascia is why stretching feels different than just moving a joint.
