Factor

/ˈfæktər/ noun

Definition

One of the things that influences or causes a result. In math, it is a number that divides another number exactly.

Etymology

From Latin “factor” meaning “doer” or “maker,” from “facere” meaning “to do” or “to make.” It originally referred to a person who acts on behalf of others, then broadened to anything that “does” or “produces” an effect.

Kelly Says

A factor is literally a “doer” in the situation—something that actively helps create the outcome. In math, factors are the “doers” that multiply to build a number; in life, they’re the forces building what happens.
