Fate

/feɪt/ noun

Definition

A power or force thought to control what happens in the future; or the final outcome or destiny of a person or thing.

Etymology

From Latin “fatum” meaning “that which has been spoken,” from “fari” meaning “to speak.” In Roman myth, fate was what the gods had already said would happen.

Kelly Says

Fate is literally “the thing that has been said,” as if your life were a story already spoken by unseen voices. That’s why stories about changing your fate feel powerful—they imagine talking back to the universe’s script.
