Definition
An igneous rock with a porphyritic texture containing feldspar crystals embedded in a fine-grained groundmass.
Etymology
Combining 'felso-' (relating to feldspar and fine-grained rock texture) and Greek 'porphyra' (purple), originally used to describe spotted rocks. The term describes rocks with visible phenocrysts in a glassy matrix.

Felsophyres look like someone scattered larger crystals into wet concrete—those big crystals cooled slowly in the magma chamber, then the lava erupted and the surrounding material cooled super fast, creating a dramatic two-texture appearance.
