Forehand

/ˈfɔrˌhænd/ noun

Definition

A tennis stroke hit with the palm of the hand facing the direction of the shot, typically considered the stronger and more natural stroke for most players. The racquet moves across the body from the dominant side.

Etymology

From 'fore' (meaning 'in front') and 'hand', literally meaning 'with the front of the hand'. The term emerged in tennis during the 1870s to distinguish from backhand strokes.

Kelly Says

The modern forehand has evolved dramatically - while players in the 1970s hit flat forehands, today's players generate massive topspin that can make the ball dip and bounce aggressively, completely changing court strategy!
