Definition
The front part of a stage; the forward area of a theatrical stage closest to the audience.
Etymology
From 'fore-' + 'stage' (from Old French 'estage'). This architectural term describes the stage portion positioned before or in front of the main stage area.
Kelly Says
In Elizabethan theaters, the forestage was everything—actors performed on a thrust stage that came out into the audience, making them the most intimate kind of theater imaginable.
