Frequency

/ˈfriː.kwən.si/ noun

Definition

Frequency is how often something happens during a certain period of time. In science, it can also mean how many waves, vibrations, or cycles occur each second.

Etymology

From Latin “frequentia” meaning “a crowd or great number,” from “frequens” (crowded, repeated). It shifted from crowds of people to repeated events.

Kelly Says

Once you learn to think in frequency, you start noticing patterns: how often you check your phone, how often you exercise, how often an ad appears. In physics, frequency is literally the ‘beat’ of reality—how fast things are oscillating under the surface.
