Friable

/ˈfraɪəbl/ adjective

Definition

Easily crumbled or reduced to powder; having a loose, crumbly texture.

Etymology

From Latin 'friabilis' (easily crumbled), from 'friare' (to rub/crumble). Perfect soil for planting is friable — it crumbles in your hand. Feta cheese is friable. Dried autumn leaves are friable.

Kelly Says

Things that crumble at the slightest touch! Dry cookies, autumn leaves, good garden soil — all friable! It's the opposite of claggy. Run friable soil through your fingers and feel a thousand tiny particles of happy earth! 🍂🤏
