Front

/frʌnt/ noun

Definition

The front is the part of something that faces forward or is most important or visible. It can also mean a line or area where two forces or conditions meet, such as in war or weather.

Etymology

“Front” came into English from Old French “front,” from Latin “frons,” meaning “forehead” or “face.” Over time it shifted from describing the face to describing the forward part of anything.

Kelly Says

We still talk about the “front” of a house like it has a face looking at the street. Weather reports borrow the same idea when they talk about “cold fronts” pushing into an area like a moving wall.
