Definition
Plural of fuchsia; plants with drooping flowers of bright pink, purple, or red colors, commonly grown as ornamental houseplants.
Etymology
Named after Leonhart Fuchs, a 16th-century botanist, through New Latin nomenclature. The plant genus was given this honorific name in recognition of his botanical work.
Kelly Says
It's wild that a plant is named after a person, but botanists often do this to honor scientists—and fuchsia flowers are so distinctive with their dual-color bell shapes that the name stuck across every language.
