Definition
The quality of being musty, stale, or stuffy; the state of being old-fashioned or hopelessly conservative.
Etymology
From fusty with the noun-forming suffix -ness, creating an abstract noun that denotes the quality or state of being musty or outdated.
Kelly Says
English is so efficient at creating nouns with -ness that we have precise words like 'fustiness' to describe the general quality of staleness, rather than needing to say 'the state of being fusty' every time.
