Googolplex

/ˈɡuː.ɡɔːl.plɛks/ noun

Definition

An even larger number than a googol, equal to 10 to the power of a googol (10^googol), so vast that it has no practical application in the universe.

Etymology

Coined by Edward Kasner and his nephew Milton Sirotta in 1938, combining 'googol' with the suffix '-plex' (from the Latin 'plexus,' meaning 'twisted' or 'folded'). The '-plex' element was chosen to suggest a number that is exponentially larger.

Kelly Says

A googolplex is so incomprehensibly large that you could write zeros on every atom in the universe and still not reach it—it's a number so huge that mathematicians invented it just to have a word for 'basically infinity' with a fun name!
