Definition
pleased, satisfied, or given something desired as a reward.
Etymology
From Latin 'gratificari' (to do something for favor), combining 'gratus' (pleasing, grateful) and 'facere' (to make or do). The meaning shifted from 'to please' to 'pleased' over time.
Kelly Says
The root 'gratus' is the same root that gives us 'grateful,' 'gratitude,' and 'grace'—all connected to the idea of something being pleasing or acceptable. When you're gratified, you feel that pleasant sense that something worked out exactly as it should.
