Definition
A real or imagined wrong or other cause for complaint or protest; a formal complaint about unfair treatment. It represents a feeling that one has been wronged and deserves redress.
Etymology
From Old French 'grevance,' derived from 'grever' meaning 'to burden or oppress,' which comes from Latin 'gravare' (to make heavy). The word evolved from the literal sense of a heavy burden to the metaphorical burden of feeling wronged.
Kelly Says
Think of a grievance as emotional 'GRIEF' that needs 'VENTING' - when someone has been wronged, they carry the heavy grief of injustice and need to air their grievance! The word even contains 'grieve' - you grieve the unfairness.
