Hadrons

/ˈhædrɒnz/ noun

Definition

Plural of hadron; subatomic particles composed of quarks held together by the strong nuclear force, including protons and neutrons.

Etymology

From Greek hadros (thick, strong) + -on (particle suffix). Term coined by Russian physicist A.B. Migdal in 1962 to describe particles affected by the strong nuclear force.

Kelly Says

You are made of hadrons—your protons and neutrons are literally 'thick' particles compared to electrons, and the very matter you're built from comes from understanding these cosmic building blocks.
