A genus of large herbivorous dinosaurs with duck-like bills, found in the Late Cretaceous period of North America.
From Greek hadros (thick) + sauros (lizard) + -us (Latin masculine singular ending). The genus name was formally established in 1858 as one of the first named dinosaur groups.
Hadrosaurus was one of the first dinosaurs to be scientifically named, and its fossils showed us that dinosaurs weren't all tiny—some were absolutely massive family groups of plant-eaters.
