Haemocyte

/ˈhiːmoʊsaɪt/ noun

Definition

Any blood cell, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

Etymology

From Greek 'haima' (blood) + 'kytos' (cell). Biologists created this general term to describe any type of cell found in blood.

Kelly Says

Your body produces about 2 million haemocytes every second—that's 200 billion per day—which is why blood banks need constant donation to treat sick patients.
