Halcyon

/ˈhælsiən/ adjective

Definition

Characterized by peace, joy, and tranquility; idyllically calm and peaceful. Often refers to a golden period of happiness or prosperity in the past.

Etymology

From Greek 'halkyōn' (kingfisher), from the myth that kingfishers nested on calm seas during winter solstice, creating fourteen days of peaceful weather called 'halcyon days.' The bird's association with calm seas led to the word meaning peaceful or tranquil.

Kelly Says

Remember the mythical kingfisher that could calm stormy seas to build its nest — halcyon days are so peaceful even the ocean cooperates. Think of those perfect childhood summer days that seemed to last forever.
