Definition
A variant spelling of hebetomy; a surgical procedure intended to dull sensation or reduce awareness, particularly in psychiatric treatment.
Etymology
An alternative form of hebetomy with the prefix hebo- instead of hebete-. Both derive from Latin hebēs (dull) + Greek -tomy (cutting), but this variant uses a contracted form of the root.
