A specialized arm or tentacle-like appendage found in male cephalopods (squid and octopuses) that is modified for transferring sperm packets during reproduction.
Etymology
From Greek 'hekaton' (hundred) and 'kotyle' (cup or sucker), referring to the numerous suckers on this specialized appendage. The term was coined in the 19th century by marine biologists studying cephalopod reproduction.
