Hepatography

/hɛpətˈɒɡrəfi/ noun

Definition

A description or detailed written/pictorial representation of the liver, or radiographic imaging of the liver.

Etymology

From hepato- (liver, Greek hepar) + -graphy (from Greek graphia 'writing or depicting'). This term follows the medical convention of combining organ names with -graphy to describe either written descriptions or imaging procedures of that organ.

Kelly Says

Before modern ultrasounds and CT scans, hepatography meant actual written descriptions and sketches of liver anatomy from dissections—now it usually refers to imaging studies. The shift from words to pictures shows how medical technology has evolved to show us what we previously could only describe!
