Heritability

/ˌhɛɹ.ɪ.təˈbɪl.ɪ.ti/ noun

Definition

The proportion of variation in a trait within a population that can be attributed to genetic differences among individuals.

Etymology

From Latin 'hereditabilis' meaning 'that may be inherited,' from 'hereditas' (inheritance).

Kelly Says

Heritability tells us how much GENES contribute to the differences between people — but it says nothing about whether a trait can be changed by environment!
