Heterochthon

/hetərˈɒkθən/ noun

Definition

A person or group of people who are not native to a place; foreigners or those of different origin than the local population.

Etymology

From Greek hetero- (different) + chthon (earth/land). Classical term used in anthropology and geology to describe non-native populations.

Kelly Says

The Greeks used 'heterochthon' to describe anyone not born from the earth of Greece, and ironically, many 'autochthonous' Greek groups were actually Mycenaean Greek heterochthons who arrived earlier than others.
