Etymology
From Greek 'historia' (inquiry, knowledge from inquiry) and Latin suffix '-arius.' The word evolved from 'historia' meaning the investigation of past events.

Historians are storytellers with sources—they reconstruct the past using evidence, and their interpretations change over time as new evidence emerges or previous biases are recognized, which is why history is really a conversation between the present and the past.
