Definition
Having abnormally low blood pressure, which can cause dizziness, weakness, or fainting.
Etymology
From Greek 'hypo-' (under or below) and Latin 'tensus' (stretched or pressure). Medical term combining prefix meaning 'below normal' with the tension of blood pressure.
Kelly Says
While high blood pressure (hypertension) gets all the scary warnings, low blood pressure can actually be dangerous too—some athletes train to have naturally low blood pressure, but too-low is a real medical problem!
