Judgements

/ˈdʒʌdʒmənts/ noun

Definition

Plural of judgement; decisions made by a court of law, or opinions formed about something.

Etymology

From Old French jugement, from Latin judicium meaning 'judicial decision,' from judex (judge). The root jud- comes from jus (law, right) and dicere (to say). Both 'judgment' and 'judgement' spellings are correct, with the latter more common in British English.

Kelly Says

The spelling variation between 'judgment' and 'judgement' reflects a fascinating split in English usage - American legal writing typically drops the 'e' for brevity, while British usage maintains it. This small difference has sparked surprisingly passionate debates among legal professionals and grammarians.
