Kama

/ˈkɑːmə/ noun

Definition

In Hindu and Buddhist philosophy, desire or longing, particularly sensual or sexual desire. One of the four goals of human life in Hinduism.

Etymology

From Sanskrit 'kāma' meaning 'desire, wish, longing', from the root 'kam-' (to desire). Related to the god Kama, the Hindu deity of love and desire, equivalent to Cupid in Roman mythology.

Kelly Says

Kama represents a complex philosophical concept that encompasses not just physical desire but all forms of emotional and aesthetic longing. The Kama Sutra, often misunderstood in Western culture, is actually a comprehensive guide to living well that includes love, relationships, and pleasure as part of a balanced life.
