Kerry

/ˈkɛri/ noun

Definition

A county in Ireland; or a traditional form of horse-drawn transport found in Ireland.

Etymology

From Irish Gaelic 'Ciarraighe' (people of Ciar). Originally the name of a kingdom, it became the county name. The 'jaunty' or small cart became associated with the region.

Kelly Says

Kerry's name actually comes from an ancient Irish tribe called 'Ciar,' making it over 1,500 years old—and the jaunting car (a two-wheeled Irish cart) became so linked to the region that tourists still think it's what Kerry people invented!
