Korean

/kɔˈriən/ adjective

Definition

Relating to Korea, its people, language, or culture; can also refer to a person from Korea or the Korean language. Encompasses both North and South Korean contexts.

Etymology

From 'Korea', which comes from 'Goryeo', a medieval Korean kingdom (918-1392). 'Goryeo' itself meant 'high and clear', referring to the mountainous landscape. The name entered Western languages through various trade and diplomatic contacts.

Kelly Says

Korean culture has become globally influential through the 'Hallyu' (Korean Wave), spreading K-pop, K-dramas, and Korean cuisine worldwide. The Korean language is unique in having a writing system (Hangul) specifically designed by scholars to be logical and accessible, making it one of the world's most scientific alphabets.
