Lacks

/læks/ verb

Definition

is without or deficient in; does not have

Etymology

From Middle Dutch 'laken' (to be wanting), related to Old Norse 'lakr' (lacking)

Kelly Says

Interestingly, 'lack' originally meant a defect or fault, but now we use it more neutrally to simply mean 'without.' It's one of those words that lost its negative judgment over time.
