Definition
Stole goods or valuables from a place, especially during a war, disaster, or chaos when things are unguarded.
Etymology
From Hindi 'lūt' meaning plunder or booty, adopted into English during British colonial rule in India around the 1700s. It originally described the plundering of goods during conflicts.
Kelly Says
The word 'loot' became famous in English during the British Empire's theft of treasures from colonized countries—so when we use it casually for video game rewards, we're actually using vocabulary tied to real colonial robbery!
