Definition
A machine is a device with moving parts that uses energy to do work, such as lifting, cutting, moving, or processing things. Machines can be simple, like a lever, or complex, like a computer or car.
Etymology
From Latin 'machina,' from Greek 'mēkhanē,' meaning 'device, contrivance, means.' The word originally suggested cleverness and ingenuity in solving problems.
Kelly Says
We now call computers 'machines,' even though they have almost no visible moving parts. That shows how the idea of a machine has shifted from physical motion you can see to invisible information flows that still change the world.
