Misfit

/ˈmɪsˌfɪt/ noun

Definition

A person whose behavior or attitude sets them apart from others in an uncomfortably conspicuous way.

Etymology

From mis- (wrongly) + fit, originally meaning something that doesn't fit properly. The social meaning developed in the early 20th century, applying the physical concept to social situations.

Kelly Says

Many of history's greatest innovators were considered misfits in their time - from Einstein to Steve Jobs. What we call 'not fitting in' often just means thinking differently, and that difference can be the source of breakthrough ideas and social progress.
